COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS

Many of us may have heard of some human beings who have experienced temporary spiritual enlightenment, or perhaps some individuals who have attained the state of Cosmic Consciousness. We may even have experienced these states of higher mind ourselves. However, Swedenborg always reminds us that these states of higher mind do not define who and what we are in reality. Our substance or real being is our dominant love. This is who and what we are in reality. The state of our mind radiates from the state of our heart. And, it is only by fusing our unselfish intentions and rational or wise thoughts by means of useful actions that we can permanently change our level of being and enter higher states of heart and mind.

Therefore, there is also a negative aspect to experiencing these higher states of mind. We may then erroneously believe that we are more spiritually advanced than others and, as a result, become arrogant and self-righteous. This is usually what happens to many new-age spiritual gurus. They start to believe that they are gods on earth. In order not to fall into this spiritual trap,  we must always remember that there is ONLY ONE God in the universe. And ONLY God is Infinite, Wise and Good. This equally means that ALL human beings are finite and imperfect. The human self is empty, ignorant and evil (selfish). And any Wisdom, Goodness and Love that we may experience is flowing into our human self from God by correspondence and influx.

In fact, the highest angels are the most humble of all. They are also the wisest of all because they know that all the Wisdom that they know, the Love that they feel and the Good that they do flows into their self from God. And their wisdom stems from their innocence because all their intentions are unselfish and pure. Divine Love is always unselfish because God is omnipotent and His only desire is to bestow the highest blessings upon His creatures. This is also the reason Celestial Angels derive all their joy, peace and contentment from serving others.

The Lord, when He was on earth, communicated these Heavenly Truths to His disciples:

Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. Luke 9:46-48

But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. Matthew 26: 27

Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18: 3-4
